2008 AGI Card Design Contest Rules

• Artists of all ages may enter.
• Entries must be received no later than APRIL 14 to: agi@alternativegifts.org
• Artwork should be submitted in one of the following formats: PDF, JPEG, TIFF, or Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign files.
• All submissions must be original and authored by the entrant.
• Artwork may consist of a sketch or drawing in any art medium including computer graphics and photography.
• Design must fit on a 5” x 7” card, and can be either horizontal or vertical format.
• Two new card designs will be chosen, and design should fit into one of the following categories:
  1) Nature-related / Environment
  2) Interfaith Holiday (Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, etc.)

• Image should not contain any text or copy (such as the artwork title, the name “Alternative Gifts International,” etc.) unless intended to be an element of design (i.e. “Happy Holidays,” etc.).
• Multiple artists contributing to one design should designate one person to submit the artwork and entry form. Only one prize will be awarded per winning entry.
• Entrants may submit more than one entry, however only one card design will be chosen per artist (i.e. a contestant may win only once).

Selection and Notification of Winners:
Winners will be selected by a jury of professional art instructors as well as representatives of AGI. The panel of judges will base their decisions on the following criteria:

• Does the design reflect the purpose and mission of AGI?
• Will the design be desirable to constituents of many age levels, backgrounds and religious beliefs?
• Is the design visually appealing and graphically strong?
• Is the design original, and not reminiscent of an existing design?

Winning entrants will be notified by e-mail by April 30, 2008. A high resolution image or original artwork and signed agreement must be submitted to AGI upon notification of winning.

Prizes:
Two winning entries will be chosen, with a cash prize of $250 each. No substitution of prizes is allowed.

Winners will receive 10 copies of the printed card and 10 copies of AGI’s 2008-2009 catalog, “My Shopping List for the World” in July 2008 for purpose of artist’s records only. The back of the card will contain the artist’s name and title of card.

Winning artists and designs will be highlighted in AGI’s summer newsletter (mailed with AGI’s catalog, “My Shopping List for the World” in July of 2008), as well as posted on AGI’s website.

Rights & Release:
All artwork or photos submitted must be entirely original. The artist agrees to indemnify and hold harmless AGI from and against any damages or losses sustained as a result of any design which is not original.

The art design or photo must be exclusively made for AGI and is not to be submitted to other organizations, galleries or corporations, with the exception of non-winning entries after the close of the contest.

Acceptance of prize constitutes permission to AGI to use the winner’s name and/or likeness for purpose of promotion without further compensation. The winning art designs will become the property of AGI.

Artwork may be altered or enhanced for printing on greeting cards, representation on AGI’s website or in other promotional materials. AGI reserves the right to change the title of the entry on winning designs.
