"How wonderful it is that nobody has to wait a single moment before starting to improve the world."
Anne Frank’s quote has provided inspiration for millions, even for the first Alternative Gift Market in 1980. Still today, every time a person discovers an AGI catalog or the AGI web site and selects an alternative gift, the cycle of alternative gifting is repeated and the world is improved. Each simple gift provides joy, curiosity, compassion, appreciation, hope and new life. How can one gift do so much? Joy – for the giver. AGI shoppers/donors actually enjoy this experience. While AGI’s project categories have always addressed similar categories of need, this year’s Shopping List is organized in accordance with the United Nations MillenniumDevelopment Goals (MDG). For more information, visit www.un.org/millennium goals. Please join the thousands of AGI volunteers and supporters as we improve the world.
Curiosity and appreciation—Recipients are amazed or appreciative about the unique selection.
Compassion—Empathy is a powerful tool when students, volunteers or recipients can learn about the needs of others through the information provided about each project.
Hope—This is a basic need for people to be healed and survive through poverty and crises.
New Life—Such change occurs when connecting people who want to help, with people who can help, for people who need help.
