| Sudanese refugees receive dental care and other vital medical assistance at the Center for Hope and a Cure |
Sudanese refugees face challenging conditions in Egypt, a country where resources are already very limited and 25 million of its own citizens live below the poverty line. The migrants from Sudan (more than 1 million) face even more difficulties -- unemployment, poor housing, limited access to health and education and racial discrimination.
Sudanese women, children and disabled refugees are marginalized and deprived of access to health, dental and social services in Egypt.
One of the rare places where Sudanese refugees can seek free medical care is in Alexandria at the Center for Hope and a Cure, a project of HANDS ALONG THE NILE.
At least 900 people are helped at the clinic each month. Services include surgery, assistance with childbirth, distributing eye glasses, dental care, medication, and much more. Without the clinic, Sudanese refugees would live without basic health and dental care.
