32 Transforming Lives Through Micro-Loans
Peru & Sri Lanka

Many poor people are full of great ideas, but do not have the capital to turn their dreams to reality. They are trapped in a cycle of poverty, unable to support their families. Having a dream and being able to pursue that dream is now possible for some, with a share of a loan as small as $25 to start or expand a small business.

PEER SERVANTS
(PS) works with local partners in the poor regions of Peru and Sri Lanka, providing micro-loans for resilient hard-working people. One man took his business idea to a PS partner in 2004 and got a loan to make brooms, rugs and brushes from coconut fiber. He repaid the loan and got another to increase his business. His income supports 10 family members and he provides employment for other villagers. He also teaches the trade to unemployed youth so that they are able to find jobs and pay for school tuition and supplies. PS partners have provided over 2700 business loans in these countries totaling over $750,000 since inception. Their loan repayment rate averages 95%.
